Heritage dominates Rockdale

Not only did the Heritage soccer team sweep Rockdale on Friday night, but they started it in extremely dominating fashion.

The Lady Patriots put two goals on the scoreboard in the game's first 90 seconds.

Courtney Hodges crossed a ball to Haley Elliott 30 seconds in, and just a minute later Hodges scored unassisted to start a long night for the Lady Bulldogs.

Heritage wasn't threatened in the 40-minute match, and still hasn't allowed a goal in 2012.

"I'm very pleased," Heritage coach Chad Suddeth said. "In the past we've come out against inferior teams and kind of played down to that level. Tonight was not one of those nights. We had a business like attitude and did what we needed to do early."

Laura Zawadzki, Courtney Kelly, Kaley Wells, Ray Brown and Maria Harding rounded out the first half scoring - all in the first 17 minutes. Harding then added another goal in the second half.

The lop-sided victory allowed Suddeth to get plenty of playing time for players throughout his bench.

"We had a chance to play a lot of our bench tonight," I'm glad they got quality minutes. We're going to need minutes from them later in the season, and there are girls we're going to be depending on next year."

There was also a quick goal in the boys' match with Rockdale scoring in the first minute.

"They work very hard and are very organized," Heritage coach Brandon Stewart said. "It made it really difficult for us today in a game that we should have done better."

The Patriots were forced to play catch-up earlier, and Rockdale continued to put pressure on Heritage's back line.
In the second half, Heritage got in gear scoring all three of its goals.

Mauricio Reyes scored the first goal on a chip in from inside a busy six-yard box.

Gustavo Martinez knocked in the second from outside the 18-yard box on the right side.

The third goal came as Heritage was pressing to put the Bulldogs away, on a shot by Jeffrey Lawson.

They worked really hard and made it difficult for us," Stewart said. "We had a heart-to-heart at halftime and they answered my call."

Heritage will travel to Whitewater on Tuesday.
