I'm on my way to a wake. My dear friend's brother lost his battle with cancer. Everyone is heartbroken. Period. No deep theological explanations are welcome right now. Most folks are just tired. Words are not even necessary. Hugs help. So does Kleenex.

Lord, what can I offer to my friend? I've seen her once since her brother died and wanted to do something. Anything. We hugged and wept. What can I do or say to help? Lord, please, tell me what to say. I'll do it.
Flowers and cards don't help fill my empty-handed feeling. I'm dressed to go and still feel unequipped.

All that I can do is be there for her.

Father God,
Please wrap your arms around my friend. Prompt me to do whatever you would have me do to bring her your comfort. Cover her with your peace.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" (Mt 5:4 NIV).
