Hands Across Rockdale seeks project bids

Hands Across Rockdale invites the community to come out and serve on April 14, 8 a.m. – noon, as it launches its inaugural volunteer event.

Hands Across Rockdale was born out of a desire to channel the tremendous volunteer spirit in Rockdale and is organized by volunteers from Leadership Rockdale, a civic educational program run by the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

HAR is currently seeking project submissions for family friendly projects. Whether it’s a church’s project to clean out the yard of elderly members, or spreading mulch and beautifying our local parks and trails, repainting a school or helping out at the animal shelter, HAR is looking for ways to make your community a better place.

All projects need to be able to be completed within the 4-hour window on April 14, 8 a.m. - noon, need to be located in Rockdale, and need to be something the average person can do (no skilled labor). Every project submission should have a person identified as the project director and local contact.

Deadline for project submission is Feb. 15. Applications are available online, www.handsacrossrockdale.org. Projects selected for this year’s HAR will be announced on March 15.

To sign up for volunteering on April 14, go to www.handsacrossrockdale.org. Volunteers will be able to choose what types of project they’d like to work on when they sign up online.  If they sign up by April 1, they’ll receive a T-shirt with a logo designed by Rockdale Career Academy students (see page 8).  Volunteers will be notified of which project they’ve been assigned via email about a week before the day and can go straight to the project worksite on the morning of April 14. An appreciation lunch will be served afterwards at a central location.

HAR is also looking for sponsors to help cover supply costs for this inaugural event. Sponsorships range from $25 - $500.
