Clayton State and former Heritage basketball player Juron Dobbs was named the Peach Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Year Tuesday.

The Clayton State senior captain anchored a defense which finished second in the Peach Belt in field goal percentage allowed. He started all 26 contests for the Lakers this season, defending the opponents' best player no matter the position.

The second-leading rebounder on the team, Dobbs had six double-digit rebounding games, including 15 against Young Harris. The Clayton State defense is ranked among the PBC's top five in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense and blocks. Dobbs becomes the first Laker to be named the PBC Defensive Player of the Year.

Clayton State (13-13) will return to action on Friday in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Columbus State. The Lakers will face USC Aiken at 1 p.m. in the event.
