High School football schedules have been released and all of the Rockdale County programs are very excited for the upcoming season.

Heritage will begin a new era at Northgate under coach Mike Parris, who comes to the Patriots from Jackson.

The Patriots have made the postseason three straight years - including last year going 8-3 - in the most successful string of seasons in Heritage's football history before Chad Frazier resigned as head coach to pursue a job closer to home at Villa Rica.

Parris comes to Heritage after 17 years at Jackson, putting together a 123-67 record with 11 state playoff appearances, a tradition he hopes to continue at the Rockdale County school.

"By me being a new coach coming in I expect us to compete very hard, be prepared every game and play very aggressive defense," Parris said.

Rockdale begins its second season under its coach, Venson Elder looking to get back into the state playoffs.

The Bulldogs ended a three-year streak of missing the playoffs with a 3-9 record and a fourth-place finish in Region 2-AAAAAA in 2012.

Elder will take a more experienced team into 2013, starting with a cross-town rivalry game against Salem.

The Bulldogs will also play Heritage and Drew in non-region matchups before facing Langston Hughes Morrow, Lovejoy, Luella, Newton, Alcovy and Druid Hills in 2-AAAAAA games. Rockdale will play its homecoming game against Newton in the second year of the Rockdale/Newton Classic.

Salem's schedule will follow with Wesleyan, Heritage, Winder-Barrow, Flowery Branch, Clarke Central, Gainesville, Apalachee, Cedar Shoals and Loganville. The Seminoles will play their homecoming game against Apalachee.

Heritage's schedule will follow with Rockdale and region foes Salem, Cedar Shoals, Gainesville, Winder-Barrow, Clarke Central, Flowery Branch, Loganville and two games against Apalachee.

All of the Rockdale high schools are looking forward to playing their cross-county rivals.

"Every week there will be an impressive team" Salem coach John Starr said.
