Film, TV production continues to roll in Rockdale, Newton counties

Once again, it’s been a busy week for film production in the metro Atlanta area.

The Dolly Parton bio pic, “Coat of Many Colors,” is being shot in Covington in late August through late September. The NBC film centers around Parton’s upbringing and is a family-oriented, faith-based story about incidents in her family’s life in the Great Smoky Mountains in 1955. Casting directors are looking for actors, models and talent to work on several scenes, including a blonde 8-year-old Caucasian girl, two big and scary Caucasian boys to play bullies, and Caucasian boys, brunet, ages 3 to 5 who like being tossed in the air repeatedly. Filming dates for these scenes is Aug. 17, 18 or 19. Filming of “Sleepy Hollow,” FOX’s updated take on the Washington Irving story, continues in Conyers and surrounding areas. The cast and crew will filming Aug. 18, 20, 21 and 24. .

Jennifer Garner was in Covington this week and visited Scoops during a break in the filming of “Miracles From Heaven.”

The Vampire Diaries is looking for extras to work on a “heaven and hell” costume party scene on Friday, Aug. 21. The extras are invited to bring or create their own costume, though some will be asked by the production crew to be fit for costumes. Party goers should be men and women of all ethnicities between the ages of 18 and 35. A pilot spin-off of “Empire” centering around Atlanta’s music industry is being developed by Lee Daniels for Twentieth Century Fox Television. Called “Star,” the plot follows three young women working to make names for themselves in the music business. The proposed one-hour pilot will be written, directed and executive produced by Daniels. Casting is expected to begin soon.

The new series, “The Detour,” which will appear on TBS, is looking for extras to work on several scenes filming in Atlanta. The story centers around a man, his wife and two children for a 24-hour adventure to the Keys.

Middle school kids able to play instruments are sought for the movie, “Mother’s Day,” starring Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson and directed by Gary Marshall.
