Covington police reported that they arrested a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on a charge of drunk driving early Saturday.
According to a Covington Police Department report, the officer saw a green Nissan truck weaving and swerving eastbound on Old Atlanta Highway.
When the officers made contact with the driver, 42-year-old David Robert Silka, they immediately noticed a strong odor of alcohol, according to reports, and that Silka spoke with a slur.
According to reports, Silka immediately told officers that he was an ICE agent and had a gun in the car and started reaching around the passenger floorboard area. He was ordered to stop reaching but continued to do so, eventually producing a wallet with a badge and credentials.
When officers had him exit his truck, he was unsteady on his feet. He allegedly told officers that he had come from his group supervisor's home where they were celebrating a recent "successful operation" and that he was headed home to Canton. He admitted drinking "six or seven beers," and that the last drink was just prior to leaving.
Silka reportedly asked the officer several times if he could pull his vehicle over and sleep because he "didn't want to loose his career."
After failing several sobriety tests, Silka was placed under arrest. Officers searched the truck and found an empty 12-ounce beer can in the center console.
Silka was charged with DUI less safe and improper right turn
