Mrs. Ethel Mullins, age 86 of Conyers, died Sunday, November 13, 2011. Ethel (affectionately known as "Granny") was born in Nampa, Idaho on May 10, 1925. At the age of two, she and her parents moved back to West Plains, MO and lived on her grandfather's farm. She graduated from high school in West Plains and worked there until she married Doyle Mullins in 1946. They lived in Tulsa, OK where he worked for the FAA. As soon as Karen was school age, Ethel went to work for the S.C. Orbach Co., a men's retail clothing store in Oklahoma City. In 1990 she retired from Orbach's after having worked there for over 37 years. She attended South Lee United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City where she was active in the women's group. She attended Salem United Methodist Church in Covington as long as her health permitted. She was an avid reader with Egyptian history and archeology being one of her favorite subjects. She loved to write everything from short stories and poems to letters to all the family members on a weekly basis. After she retired, she pieced quilts out of double knit fabric and supplied everyone she knew with quilts which were warm and practical for use almost everywhere including in the car, for children or pets. She even sent many to the homeless shelters. She enjoyed using the quilts she had made particularly during her final illness at home. She is predeceased by two sons-in-law, Jack R. Pugh and L. D. Mullins. She is survived by daughter, Karen Mullins, of Conyers, GA; grandsons, Denzil Pugh and Kelly Pugh of Conyers, GA; a sister, Myrtle DeLeeuw of East Wenatchee, WA; a brother, Roy Swearingen of Tulsa, OK; two cousins, Grace Lampitt and Helen Wilborn, both of West Plains, MO. One of her favorite sayings was, "You'll be okay, we'll just leave you by the gate." She has now arrived at the Gate, and she'll be okay. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Howard Greer officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
