Make way for ducks as the Rockdale County Senior Services present their eighth Annual Rubber Ducky Race on June 21 at 9:30 a.m.

About 1,300 yellow rubber ducks will be released into the waters of Honey Creek at the Elks Aidmore campus in Conyers. The first ducks to cross the finish line win prizes for their ticket holders.

This is the biggest annual fundraiser for the senior center. The race’s proceeds benefit programs such as Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, Meals on Wheels, congregate meals, and transportation vouchers. Demand for senior service programs has been rising, said Director Jackie Lunsford.

Organizer Melissa Pugh agreed. “This shortens our waiting list, having the funds to reach more people. That’s the greatest thing about having this… we're able to reach more people in need.”

The grand prize for this annual race will be an Entertainment Package including a Wii console with accessories, Wii Sports and Mario games and a 24 inch flat screen television.

Other prizes include video cameras, a telescope, dinner performance tickets, grocery and gas gift cards plus much more. Also, ticket holders don’t have to be present to win.

One duck/ticket is $10 and or you can get three for $25. The deadline for purchases is June 18 or while supplies last. This event will be held on June 21 at 9:30 a.m. at Honey Creek. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Melissa at (770) 278-7230 or visit the Olivia Haydel Senior Center at 1240 Dogwood Drive.
