A potentially tense chase and traffic stop ended peacefully with two arrests after deputies received a tip about narcotics and a gun in the car.
Terry Russell Bracket, 41, of Oxford and Bridget Michelle Haro, 27, of Conyers were arrested on Wednesday, March 7.
Russell was charged with possession of schedule III drugs and possession and use of drug related objects. He also reportedly had a warrant for a previous charge, an alleged hijacked car charge. Haro was charged with possession of schedule IV drugs and theft by receiving stolen property.
According to a Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office report, around 5:30 p.m. a deputy parked at the Sonic at Oglesby Bridge Road and Ga. Highway 20 saw a black GMC Yukon that matched the description given by investigators earlier of a car that might contain drugs and a weapon in it.
The Yukon, which had a white male driver on the phone and two passengers, was headed north on Ga. Highway 20 and the deputy was able to catch up to the vehicle at a red light. The deputy continued following the car north until backup units could arrive.
At Miller’s Chapel Road, the Yukon turned left, running through a red light. The deputy activated his lights to pull the Yukon over, which was in the turn lane as if to go towards the Jim N’ Nick’s restaurant. The vehicle did not stop, however, and the deputy went around it to attempt to box it in. At that point, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, continued down the road, and turned into the rear entrance of the Sports Authority store, where it stopped.
By this time, multiple patrol cars were pursing the car. The deputy gave commands over the PA system for the suspects to put their hands up and throw the keys out of the vehicle and then gave commands for each individual to come out of the car.
The driver was the first to exit and reportedly said to deputies “She’s got the gun.”
The passenger, Haro, said the passenger side door would not open. She was told to come out the driver’s side while deputies covered her at gunpoint.
The rear seat passenger, Brackett, also came out and got on the ground as instructed.
When deputies searched the car after a K-9 indicated it smelled drugs in the front passenger side, they found a “used hypodermic needle full of what appeared to be blood” in a handbag. They also reportedly found Glock handgun in a black cloth holster, a digital scale.
The driver reportedly told deputies that when they turned their lights on and he began to pull over, "the rear passenger Terry Brackett held a gun to him and instructed him not to stop but to run from the law or he would shoot him.”
Once the car did come to a stop, the driver said Brackett either tossed the gun under her seat or handed her the gun. The gun turned out to be stolen.
Brackett and Haro were booked into the Rockdale County jail.
