Conyers wins State Crown

Conyers Post 77's Tyler Austin, a Heritage standout and top MLB prospect, clubs a home run to help his squad clinch the American Legion State Championship with a 13-3 win over Douglasville on Sunday at Hunter Park in Douglasville.

Conyers Post 77 is the American Legion state baseball champion.

Coach Eddie Bagwell's team went 4-0 during the tournament, which took place from July 22-July 26 in Hunter Park in Douglasville. The team defeated runner-up and host Douglasville Post 145 twice in a row (to clinch a spot in the championship game on Sunday, and once again in that game after Douglasville won the loser's bracket) to clinch the state crown. Bagwell's team outscored Douglasville 21-6 in the two games, and outscored the competition 39-15 during the four-day run.
