A Conyers man was officially charged today for the death of a passenger in a single car crash from February after toxicology test results recently returned.

Travis Neilson, 25, was charged with homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of multiple substances and failure to maintain lane.

On February 9, around 4:30 a.m., Neilson was driving west on Costley Mill Road near Ga. Highway 138 in a 2002 Dodge Caravan with Joshua Lagrand, 27, of Conyers in the passenger seat.

The car went off the road and ran into a tree, killing LaGrand and seriously injuring Neilson, who was transported to Atlanta Medical.

Toxicology test results were recently returned to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office and showed the presence of alcohol and methamphetamine in Neilson's blood, according to RCSO Investigator Michael Camp.

Neilson was arrested at the Rockdale County Superior Court today where he was entering a plea for an unrelated case.

He was also facing eight counts of sexual exploitation of children for a January 2010 case involving viewing child pornography on the internet.

Neilson entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to a total of 15 years to serve three years, according to his attorney Gary Moore. Neilson will also be required to register as a sex offender and have no unsupervised contact with minors.
