Christian daycare special use permit deferred

IN BRIEF: The decision on a Special Use Permit to allow a daycare at the TGS Christian Ministries at 2360 Old Covington Highway was deferred until July in a unanimous vote at the Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday.

Planning and Zoning Director Marshall Walker said the county staff had recommended deferring the decision due to an ongoing investigation by Bright from the Start on complaints regarding TGS Kidz daycare.

Some of the issues cited during Bright from the Start's investigation included finding ant beds in the play area, not having files on the center's director and staff, not having training documentation, and potty chairs not being emptied as required.

The daycare was given until June 26 to implement a corrective plan.

In other Board of Commissioner business:

A decision on the application for five residential properties along Flat Shoals to be rezoned to allow a senior assisted living facility was also deferred.

The issue was a question of how much buffer space would be required. The commissioners asked county staff to reach out to the developer and to the approximately 12 affected residents to work out an agreed-upon buffer space recommendation.

The Willow Oaks facility would be built at 2463, 2473, 2483, 2545 and 2505 Flat Shoals Road by J.D. Harston Builders and Contractors, Inc. The Willow Oaks website is at http://www.willow-oaks.biz/index.html
