Members of the Chi Tau Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., of the Conyers and Covington area, attended the 2013 AKA “Day at the Capitol” on Feb. 18 at the Georgia State Capitol. This year was the 20th anniversary for AKA “Day at the Capitol” with the theme “Global Empowerment: Moving from Discussion to Action.” Marjorie Young was the convener and Rep. Carolyn Hugley was the AKA legislative liaison. Approximately 275 AKA members from Georgia attended, including Ella Springs Jones, a former South Atlantic regional director. Attendees participated in workshops discussing the four components of the International Connection Initiatives (CARES: Collaboration, Advocacy, Registration and Education). At the awards luncheon, presided by Ga. connection coordinator Phyllis Blake, Chi Tau Omega received a first place attendance award and a Chapter CARES service award.
