The Conyers First United Methodist Church invites all creatures great and small to the second annual Blessing of the Animals today, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m.
This year, the Rockdale County Animal Shelter will also be on hand with pets looking for good homes.

The Blessing of the Animals is an ancient Christian service celebrating the good news that God, who confers gifts on all living things, has often used the service of animals or made them reminders of the gifts of his saving grace, explained Debbie Golden, the church's director of evangelism. Last year's event saw all types of animals, not only dogs, cats and hamsters, but also horses, exotic birds and reptiles.

"We come together to recognize God's goodness of pure and unconditional love," said Golden. "This is a marvelous way for all different types of people to gather in thanksgiving for the common love of our pets."

Pet owners are invited to bring their pets, on leashes and restraints, to the churchyard near the gazebo on Main Street at 10 a.m.
