Voters will have another chance to hear directly from the candidates and ask them questions on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Ga. Highway 20 Coalition Candidates’ Forum. The event will be hosted at Epiphany Lutheran starting at 7 p.m.
The candidates invited to attend include both runoff candidates and people in the general election in November. Candidates from the Post 2 Commission, State Representative Districts 94 and 95, State Senate Districts 43 and 17, Congressional District 4 and federal senate seat have been invited.
The confirmed candidates as of press time are: Post 2 Commission race candidates JaNice Van Ness (R) and Courtney Dillard (D), StateRepresentative District 95 candidate and incumbent Toney Collins (D), and candidate Rodney Upton (R), State Representative District 94 candidates Dar’Shun Kendricks (D), Rhonda Peeks (D), and Steven Connor (R), State Senate District 43 candidate Diane Williams (R), State Senate District 17 candidates Todd Hilton (R) and Jim Nichols (D).
On the panel posing questions to the candidates will be Jay Jones of the Rockdale Citizen and Tonya Parker of the Rockdale News. The forum will also pose questions from the audience to the candidates.
Coalition President Gerald Barger said this was the first time the group, which is made up of homeowner’s associations and other groups along Ga. Highway 20 and has been around for about a decade, was putting on such an event.
"We felt like getting a group of candidates together might be interesting to the people. So we thought we’d try it," said Barger. Another event the Coalition held last month, speaker Tax Commissioner Dan Ray, brought a good turnout, said Barger.
