For residents looking for Gulf Coast shrimp, crawfish, fish and seafood, business owner Kiet Nguyen is opening a second seafood market in the area after opening the Crawfish Seafood Market on Flat Shoals Road in Conyers about five months ago.
He said he was opening the fresh seafood markets because he saw a local void in places to get fresh Gulf Coast seafood. After losing his job at a manufacturing plant, he decided to become his own boss and open his own business.
The market orders its fresh seafood from the Gulf Coast suppliers in Louisiana, Mississippi and elsewhere.
The Conyers store, a bright blue building perched on a hill at 2140 Flat Shoals Road, does not serve any food on site but will provide raw or cooked seafood for takeout. Nguyen said the store can either boil or deep-fry fish upon request.
Cooked meals to go include a three-piece fish plate - catfish, whiting, perch, or flounder - with fries for $6.49 to $6.99 or a meal of large or jumbo shrimp and fries. The market also offers a Low Country Boil and a turkey neck combo.
Fresh seafood available for purchase includes blue crabs, king crabs, lobster tails, bream, catfish, oysters, crawfish, scallops, sea bass, trout, tilapia, red snapper, salmon and more.
Nguyen said the Covington store wouldn't open for at least three more weeks, as it is waiting on final inspections. The building is owned by local commercial real estate firm Sunbelco.
Business hours at the Conyers store are Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m - 8 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. For more information about the market, go to crawfishseafoodmarket.com or call 770-761-5284.
