The burglary suspect caught after a car chase and crash in Henry County Tuesday is believed to be connected to a rash of burglaries in south Rockdale.

Subdivisions along Ga. Highway 138 south of Ga. Highway 212 and in subdivisions along Tucker Mill Road near 138 had recently seen a series of burglaries, according to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, Sept. 17, around 11:30 a.m. the suspect fled from Henry County Police, first on foot and then in a car. The vehicle chase ended when the suspect crashed on Millers Mill Road after making too tight a turn. The suspect, who was wanted for burglaries in Henry County, got out of the car and attempted to run but was quickly apprehended.

That vehicle in the chase/crash matched the description of the vehicle that was used in connection with the Rockdale County burglaries. RCSO investigators also discovered that the suspect had some stolen property from at least one Rockdale County burglary from Monday. Charges are being filed against the suspect, whose name has not yet been released.

"We believe that this suspect was who committed the burglaries in Rockdale County," said a statement on the RCSO's Facebook page.

The suspect was identified as Emmanuel Xavier Smith, 26. He is facing charges in Henry County of burglary, theft by receiving stolen property felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon or felony first offender, hit and run, following too closely, driving without a valid driver's license, fleeing and attempting to elude an officer, and driving too fast.
