Coming into the game, Rockdale had lost to Tucker twice in blowouts, but head coach Tyrone King was hoping the third time would be the charm for Rockdale despite the absence of All-region guard Jalen Jordan, who missed the game and will miss the next one after getting two technical fouls against Newton on Friday.
The Bulldogs fought hard early, taking a 10-9 lead after the first by playing great defense onn Tucker and their hotbed of shooters especially Connor Ferrell's one-on-one defense against Bryce Brown.
Tucker went on a 6-0 run in the second quarter before taking a 20-16 lead at halftime. Rockdale's defense was forcing Tucker into tough shots, and they weren't falling, at least in the first half.
In the third quarter Rockdale went on a 9-5 run to tie the game at 25 and the momentum looked to be swinging back toward the Bulldogs. However, a Tucker timeout got the Tigers their momentum back and it never shifted back to Rockdale,
The Tigers went on a 7-0 scoring run and Ferrell got pulled with four fouls. Tucker finished the game on a 35-15 scoring run to win the Region 2-AAAAAA championship 60-40.
Dwayne Brown finished with 14 points for Rockdale.
The Bulldogs will host a state playoff game on Wednesday.
