Beverly Jean Showalter Hinson, age 87, Conyers, Georgia, passed away Monday, November 1, 2011 at Emory University Hospital after suffering a brain injury as the result of a fall. Born April 12, 1924 in Roanoke, Virginia to Dennis J. and Grace Showalter, she received her education in Roanoke and worked as a registered nurse most of her life, first in hospital settings and then as an industrial nurse for Southern Wood Preserving Company, East Point, Georgia. Her last professional appointment in nursing was with the office of David Almand M.D., Conyers, Georgia. She married James (Jack) Eugene Hinson, May 25, 1955. She enjoyed art, travel, playing bridge and working with her many friends at Crosspoint Christian Church. She started painting portraits at age 81. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and survived by her sons, Robert Hugh Hinson, Conyers, Georgia, Paul Wesley Hinson, Atlanta, Georgia, her niece Denise Showalter Galloway, Louisville, Kentucky, and nephew Dennis James Showalter, Jr., Miami, Florida. Visitation will be from 3PM until 9PM Friday, November 4, 2011 with funeral services at 11AM Saturday, November 5, 2011; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens adjacent to the funeral home. Both visitation and funeral services will be held at Scot Ward Funeral Services. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent "in memory of Beverly Hinson" to Crosspoint Christian Church, 4550 State Route 20 S.E., Conyers, Georgia 30013.
