Dear Editor: As a citizen of Rockdale County I am greatly disappointed in both the commissioners and the new manager of animal control Ciji Baker. I have been trying to get a basically unfair and unenforceable statute regarding nuisance animals changed for more than 6 months. I have written to everyone who has an address and I have received sympathy from all but the only thing that has changed is the ‘footage’ (required for the ordinance to be enforceable) from your property to the barking dog has been reduced to 75 feet (from 100 feet).

However, a dog barking on the other side of a fence 15 feet from your bedroom window is much louder than a dog barking 75 feet from your bedroom window and yet having a dog bark that close is perfectly legal while having a dog barking two houses down is against the law. I was recently told by Baker that there was nothing more he could do. I know this is not a huge problem unless you are the one with the dog barking under your window, but if you’re never able to sleep you can’t work and can't pay taxes. I guess that’s not anybody’s problem either.
