Schools in Rockdale County started Monday.

It still is hard to imagine that back in the good old days school didn't start until after Labor Day.

So if you are part of the group that remembers those days, this editorial note is especially for you.

Please remember to watch for our little ones darting between cars, full of excitement and not worrying about you driving or your plans.

Give yourselves plenty of time to get to where you want to go. Yellow school buses have hit the highways and byways and you can be sure that one will always appear in front of you when you are in most in a hurry. When you see a school bus stopped to pick up and drop off students, whether you're in a hurry or not, you have to stop. It's the law.

Above all be patient. Our children are the future of the community. Do everything you can do to insure their safety this new school season
