Conyers Police have made an arrest after two women reported being robbed, sexually assaulted, and held against their will at a local hotel.

Mitchell Garrett Wilbanks, 25, of Mansfield was booked in the Rockdale County Jail Sept. 24, facing two charges of robbery and two charges of false imprisonment in connection to the Aug. 30 incident.

According to police reports, the women said a man who they knew robbed them and sexually assaulted them at the Horizon Extended Stay located on Old McDonough Highway. Initial reports were that a weapon was involved. However Wilbanks just faces robbery changes instead of armed robbery.

Conyers Police public information officer Kim Lucas told the News that all parties were initially at the hotel willingly.

“They were acquaintances. They all knew each other,” Lucas said of Wilbanks and the 19- and 20-year old victims. “They went to the hotel voluntarily, but after that point, the victims reported he kept them there against their will.”

Though sexual assault was involved, this incident was not related to prostitution, according to police, who have seen several prostitution-related cases at area motels in the past year.

“It doesn’t appear to be the prostitution how we’ve seen before. Moreso, just three acquaintances meeting at a hotel,” Lucas said.
