Chase Alford

Chase Alford's career at Heritage may have concluded, but the accolades for his time in a Patriots' uniform continue to come in.

Alford was recently named the Region 8-AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year and nominated to the Atlanta Journal Constitution's All-State first-team defense.

Alford finished his final season with 148 tackles, including seven for loss and two sacks. He also forced three fumbles and had one interception and a touchdown.

Alford joined Gainesville quarterback Deshaun Watson, who was Offensive Player of the Year and Winder-Barrow's Chad Platt, who was Special Teams Player of the Year atop the All-Region team.

Gainesville's Bruce Miller was named Region Coach of the Year.

Joining Alford from Heritage was fellow Patriot Collis Johnson on the first-team offensive line.

Salem senior quarterback Damion Gordon was also named to the first team, in the athlete slot.

Heritage placed three more players on the first team, all on the defensive side. Linebacker Dustyn Moore, joined defensive back Braxton Morton and kicker Harrison Kulp as All-Region honorees. Salem placed two more players on the All-Region team on the second-team defense, including the list's only freshman.

Freshman Bher Cooper was named to the defensive line, along with Salem Seminoles' senior Kevin Holmes. Heritage's Dominique Packer and Myles Hunter were also named to the second team as defensive backs. Gainesville, the Class AAAAA state champion, had the most All-Region players with 14, followed by Flowery Branch with 12.
