Callie Alford was named the Colonial Athletic Association co-Rookie of the Week Tuesday after Georgia State's swept Towson last week.

A freshman from Heritage, Alford tallied six RBI on five hits, including a pair of three-run home runs against Towson.

The Panthers defeated Towson 4-0 and 8-1 on March 31 before picking up their third win, 4-0, over the Tigers on Sunday.

In the second game of the series, Alford went 3 for 4 with five RBI at the plate and came only a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in an 8-1 win March 31.

During the week, Alford played catcher, her position at Heritage, third baseman and designated hitter. She hit .556 in the three games against Towson to go with a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage.

On the season, she leads the team in several categories including RBI (28), walks (20), total bases (45), doubles (6), slugging (.506) and is tied for the lead in home runs (5) and on-base pct. (.404).

Alford was named the Region 8-AAAA Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010, and was an All-region player in each of her four years at Heritage.

She was named an All-state player in 2009, 10 and 11.
Alford shares the honor with fellow CAA rookie Morgan Heath of James Madison. Alford is the second Panther to earn the distinction in 2012 after first baseman Lauren Coleman did so following the first week of the season.

Wednesday Alford tallied six hits with six runs and two stolen bases in Georgia State's two wins over Furman.
