I am pleased to announce that this past weekend, the Conyers Police Department was awarded international accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
The state of Georgia has 1,028 police agencies and there are less than 50 of those agencies that have undergone this process and achieved this goal.
This award speaks volumes about the professionalism of our sworn officers and civilian employees. They have all worked very diligently to reach this goal. I am very proud of this accomplishment.
As we move into the holiday season, we want to work with the community members in order to keep them safe. We would like to encourage everyone to stay alert and pay attention to their surroundings while out shopping. If you carry a purse or bag, make sure it is zipped up and hold it close to your body. Don’t leave your purse or bags unattended in shopping carts while in stores.
If you carry a wallet in your back pocket, switch and carry it in one of your front pockets. If you are carrying cash, don’t show it or advertise that you are paying with cash. After making a purchase and leaving the store, have your keys in your hand as you approach your vehicle. This will allow you to put your packages away quickly. Keep all valuables in your vehicles out of sight and locked in the trunk.
If you see anything suspicious, call the police and let them know. We encourage you to practice these safety tips during this holiday season and throughout the year.
If you would like more information on safety tips or would like to have a presentation for a group, please contact our Community Outreach Sergeant Peggy Dunn at (678) 374-5603 or email@example.com.
To ring in the holiday season, we would also like to invite members of the community to the Olde Town Christmas Party being held on Nov. 30 and the Hometown Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting on Dec. 1.
We will be partnering with the Conyers Walmart for our 5th Annual Shop with a Cop. We have invited members of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol to help out with the program.
The event this year will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15. Donations in the form of cash, checks, or Walmart gift cards are currently being accepted at the Conyers Police Department.
For more information contact the Shop with a Cop hotline at (770) 483-5780 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Next month, I am looking forward to talking about a new program for public safety we are bringing on line.
