Rockdale marked the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor with a flag retirement ceremony at the Walk of Heroes memorial in Black Shoals Park  Dec. 14. The ceremony had been postponed from Dec. 7 due to inclement weather. The American Legion Post 77 called out the retirement ceremony protocol and then proceeded to burn the more than 40 unserviceable flags that had been brought to Post 77 or Veterans’ Affairs and donated to the ceremony.
