On Tuesday, Sept. 18, Newton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 20 Paden Street in Covington in reference to assist EMS involving a 7-year-old patient who was unresponsive.

The 7-year-old, later identified as Ethan Israel Martinez, was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta with life threatening injuries. While on location, deputies spoke with David Mann Jr., who was the live in boyfriend and was the only adult home at the time of the incident.

On Sept.20, after a thorough investigation sheriff's office criminal investigators arrested and charged Mann with cruelty to children 1st degree and aggravated battery.

On Sept. 23, the 7-year-old passed away from the injuries that he sustained. Mann was charged with felony murder and is currently in jail with no bond.
