400 swimmers compete at county meet

The Rockdale swim league held its county championship on Saturday, and saw 400 swimmers take to the pool of Johnson Park.

The Covington YMCA, making up 102 of the 400 swimmers, won for the second-straight year, tallying 754 points. The Deer Run Dolphins finished in second with 632 points and the Brentwood Barracudas placed third with 393 points, just edging out the Meadowbrook Marlins with 365 points. Honey Creek and Westchester Lakes Wahoos rounded out the rest of the field with 341 and 197 points, respectively.

Although the league has Rockdale as its title county, the Covington YMCA is one of the six teams in the league.

The Brentwood Barracudas had the most individual first place finishers with six, followed by Deer Creek with four and Covington with three.

Brentwood's first-place finishers were Maya Tucker and Sara Jean Lane tied with 30 points in the 13-14 girls division, Matthew Bennett tying with 28 points in 13-14 boys with 28 points, Alyssa Bennett in 7-8 girls with 30 points, Jade McPike in 11-12 girls with 30 points and James Lane in 9-10 boys with 30 points.

Other first-place finishers were Jacob Allen of the Meadowbrook Marlins with 30 points in the 11-12 boys, Noah Thompson of Deer Run with 28 points in 13-14 boys, Rylyn Cato of Deer Run with 26 points in 6-and-under girls, Colton Patterson of Covington YMCA with 26 points in 6-and-under boys, Kaden Farley of Covington YMCA with 28 points in 7-8 boys, Betsy Potter of Honey Creek Swim Team with 30 points in 15-and over girls and Joey Ellwanger of Covington YMCA and James Kuhn of Deer Run with 28 points each in 15-and-over boys.
