ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Department of Public Safety says four people died in traffic accidents around the state during the Memorial Day weekend, far below the previous year's figure.
The department said Tuesday that the State Patrol reported 637 injuries in 2,547 crashes. In 2009, it reported 16 deaths and 1,126 injuries in 2,430 accidents.
The department had estimated there would be 15 deaths and 696 injuries in 1,972 accidents during the weekend.
Of the four deaths, one was investigated by DeKalb County police, two by Albany police and the patrol's Cuthbert post and one by the patrol's Villa Rica post.
