26-year-old, dead, found shot at Silos at Ellington

Twenty-six-year-old Nigiel Cliffard James, of Newton County, died at Grady Hospital after being found shot at Springlake Terrace Tuesday.

According to a Newton County Sheriff's Office release, deputies responded to a suspicious call in the Silos of Ellington at approximately 11 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies observed a vehicle with the parking lights on that had stopped in the roadway. Another deputy, reportedly, heard a male yelling for help at the house next to where the vehicle was stopped.

"Deputies then located a male victim on the ground advising he had been shot," NCSO Sgt. Cortney Morrison said.

Per the Newton County Coroner, Tommy Davis, the victim has been transported to the GBI Crime Lab. An autopsy will be completed by the Medical Examiner's Office to determine an exact cause and manner of death.

There has been no arrest warrants obtained at this time.

This case has been assigned to a team of investigators with the Newton County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division as this incident is currently under investigation, and witnesses are being interviewed.
