Expect delays this weekend on Interstate 20 as highway construction projects in Newton County continue, weather permitting.
Two westbound left lanes will be closed between Almon (exit 88) and Alcovy (exit 92) roads starting Friday at 9 p.m. through Monday at 5 a.m.
“Continue to avoid I-20 if at all possible,” said state construction engineer Shun Pringle.
The work is to mill the existing pavement and repave a large section of I-20; different sections will be closed and repaved on future weekends as well.
Additionally, there will be a single left lane closure on I-20 westbound between mile markers 92 (Alcovy Road) and 95 from noon on Sunday, June 1 to 8 a.m. Thursday, June 5.
The closure is due to bridge deck demolition and setting precast panels for the continuing bridge rehab project.
Georgia Department of Transportation spokesperson Cissy McNure asks drivers to use caution, reduce speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zone.
