Citizenship and the Christian

As Christians, we have a great responsibility, especially at a time of elections. The greatest privilege in the world is to be a Christian American. As such, we should pray earnestly, live morally, and vote responsibly. Never before has more been at stake in an election.

From its beginnings, our nation was founded on Christian faith, inspired by Christian hope, nurtured by prayer, and built on Christian teachings in harmony with the Bible. We have strayed so far from the vision of our founding fathers. The moral decline of our nation continues at supersonic speed.

Proverbs 29:2 says: "when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan."

Proverbs 11:11 says: "The good influence of godly citizens causes a city to prosper, but the moral decay of the wicked drives it downhill."

Proverbs 14:34 says: "righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."

Traditional values of faith, family, marriage, and the sanctity of life have all but been deserted by many in our nation. Never before has our nation been so divided on these issues. These are the real issues of this election, but have received very little attention.

In a day of dirty politics and negative campaigns, we must look deeper than campaign strategies and promises. We need to look to the character, integrity, and values of the person running for office, and how closely they reflect the true values on which our country was founded. What a person is, is as important as what a person does. Being comes before doing. If a candidate is a person of morality and decency, their judgment will most often be correct.

This is a watershed moment for our country. We are at a moral crossroads. Your voice and vote can and will make a tremendous difference. For too long, Christians have sat idly by while other people have controlled the agenda of our nation and have hijacked the morality of our country.

It is time for Christians to again become the salt and light of the world. It is time for our salt to get out of the shaker and our light to shine in the moral darkness all around us.

We also need to again fall on our knees and pray for God’s intervention in the affairs of our city, state, nation, and world. Our land needs a great healing that can only come from God and leaders who reflect his ideals.

Pray earnestly. Live morally. Vote responsibly. And get involved in making a difference in your world.
