The Covington City council voted Monday night to restore the fireworks program back into the Fourth of July festivities planned for the city.
The city will be providing the fireworks in a partnership with the Main Street program.
Although we have endorsed the council's decision not to spend the $12,000 needed for the fireworks for the past two years because of budget constraints, we agree with the city's decision to reinstate them.
If there was ever a time for us all to collectively catch our breaths and to take time with our families to gather and enjoy the comfort of each other's company, it is now.
Spending a day thanking God and celebrating the birthday of our great country will be just the right elixir for our community.
