It's been a long, hot summer. For some it has not been the best of summers, but the night air is starting to cool, the humidity is dropping and the start of the football season begins this week.

There is nothing like a battle on the gridiron to lift the spirits melted by scorching summer heat.

Friday night our local high school teams start their season. It's time to go through those closets and find the Eagle green, Ram blue and Tiger gold and black so we can cheer on the home team and show our school spirit.

While enjoying your time on the field or in the stands this fall, remember that in spite of all of the perceived troubles in this country of ours, we still have the freedom to cheer and smile for the team of our choosing. For this freedom we can thank our predecessors, our young men and women who are currently in harm's way and our God who has seen fit to shower us with blessings that we sometimes take for granted.
