A sure sign of spring here in Covington and Newton County is the sweet smell of Vidalia onions.

No, we don’t grow them here. But our local Rotarians, through their annual sale of the prized, sweet beauties, make sure that all of us have an adequate supply.

On May 8, the Rotarians will be hitting the streets, selling 25-pound bags of Vidalias for only $19.

The Rotary Club uses proceeds from the onion sale to help bring a special Christmas to hundreds of children in Newton County who would not otherwise experience the childhood joys of the holiday.

If you know a Rotarian, he or she will be glad to deliver a bag or two to you.

If you don’t, contact our general manager T. Pat Cavanaugh at 770-787-6397. He will be glad to see that you get to enjoy the ever-so-sweet Vidalia onions, fresh from the fields.
