We think the Porterdale City Council made a wise decision in approving an ordinance allowing "wine cafés" within the city limits.
From what we understand this ordinance will allow Corkpoppers to be the only kind of this type of business in our area. Hopefully local patrons of these types of establishments will choose a shorter drive to our county instead of heading into Atlanta.
Communities need to foster unique business models in order to brand themselves and make themselves attractive compared to larger municipalities. This is a tenet outlined in Porterdale’s comprehensive plan to foster positive growth and generate revenue.
We are proud of the three council members who thought outside of the box in order to pass this ordinance. Porterdale and Newton County will benefit from their foresight.
