Our Thoughts: Safety

It’s time for our annual reminder on safety and the safety of our children.

School is out this week, so there won’t be buses on the road, but that is not an excuse for you to sleep in and speed down the highway to be on time for work or appointments. In your travels, please be mindful that children will be out playing in yards, and sometimes their bicycles, tricycles, scooters and other recreational equipment may end up in the roadways, and children don’t think as they dash out to retrieve their playthings. So, please drive safely and be observant.

Many of you have pools; make sure the latches on your doors are up high and out of reach of young children. If your child is in the water, please make sure a responsible adult is with them. Even the best little swimmers can run into difficulty some time.

If you take your child to the store or to some other activity, do not leave them in the car alone even for a minute and even if the air-conditioning is on that decision could cost their life in this extreme heat of summer.

If you see a child or an animal left in a car this summer, call the police. You may be the one to save a life.

With a little care from parents and with a watchful eye by neighbors, our children can be guaranteed a safe summer.
