The city of Porterdale has some very vocal boosters, so it’s easy to see why the city will be honored by Reader’s Digest. The city is set to receive $1,000 from the magazine and will be a stop on its RV tour of 100 American towns. Fantastic. The money will be presented on Jan. 28 to Mayor Bobby Hamby, and it can be used for most anything that the city wants or needs. Readers Digest is a venerable publication well attuned to everyday America. Stories told by Porterdale residents about the city are what impressed contest judges, according to our report in Sunday’s newspaper. You can read it online at Covnews.com. Porterdale at the start of the week ranked 286 in the contest, up from 486 last week. There’s still a chance for the community to move into the Top 10, which could bring an additional $10,000, money that could be used for anything from rebuilding the gym to beautification projects. That’s a nice chunk of change. You can help Porterdale, or vote for your own community, at wehearyouamerica.readersdigest.com.
