The residents of Nelson Heights received good news this week.
The Board of Commissioners made the final vote to place the new community center under the professional control of the Newton County Recreation Commission.
It has been a shame that this project has been drawn out longer than necessary by the antics of Commissioner J.C. Henderson.
Henderson, who seems to have some serious control issues, tried his best to exert his personal control over this project up until the final vote.
We feel the new community center will become a welcome meeting place for the community as well as a fine venue for holding social events.
Under the leadership of Tommy Hailey and the recreation commission, we feel very confident that the new community center will be well staffed and managed.
Commissioner Henderson deserves full credit for his efforts in having this center built, but it is beyond past the time for him to let go.
