Our Thoughts... Keeping the county sparkling

If you haven’t had a chance to step outside and observe the beautiful green carpet and bright flowers that nature has provided us here in Newton County, you need to do so.

There is something about a blooming dogwoods and the sight of newborn cows and goats munching on the lush grass that gives you a complete rest from the stress of our world today.

Unfortunately, some of our neighbors don’t feel like you do about our beautiful county. They mindlessly throw their trash out on the highways and byways without any apparent concern for the beauty they have marred.

Fortunately for us, we have an organization here in Newton County that does care — it’s called Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful.

Since 1979 they have rallied our community to participate in the KCNB campaign of The Great American Cleanup, which will be held this Saturday.

The cleanup starts at 8 a.m. and groups will meet at the Kroger store located in Covington on U.S. Highway 278 or at the Kroger store located on Salem Road in Newton County.

There are free shirts available until they run out and breakfast will be served by the folks at Kroger.

Saturday’s forecast is a warm, sunny spring day, so put on you hiking shoes, slap on the tanning lotion and bring your family to do your part to continue to keep Newton County sparkling
