Our Thoughts... As it occurs

This publication has a wonderful complement to its print version — CovNews.com. If you haven’t had a chance to go online to review its contents, we welcome you to do so and think you will be pleased.

CovNews.com is an interactive resource that allows The Covington News to, in fact, become a daily, up-to-the-minute local information source.

Monday night after our normal business hours, a sad incident occurred as a young man barricaded himself in his family’s home, shot two deputies and eventually took his own life. We extend our prayers and most genuine sympathies to the deputies and their families as well as the family of the young man, but first we had to get to work for our readers.

When we received the first report of this incident around 5:45 p.m., our reporter Amber Pittman, who was actually off for the day, immediately went to the scene and began posting information of the incident and continued posting further updates on CovNews.com throughout the night. Pittman only posted information she had verified first-hand rather than relying on wire or television reports.

In the past, this information would have been delivered to the community Wednesday morning. CovNews.com allows us to post information as it is happening.

This publication is expanding daily with the capabilities of our Web site such as offering an online news broadcast; we always are looking for new ways for our residents and business owners to deliver their news to the community.

The Covington News has been a part of this community for the past 145 years. With the addition of CovNews.com to our information arsenal, we expect our future commitment to the area to last just as long.

Please join the almost 40,000 visitors a month who now count on CovNews.com to be their daily information source for Newton County and Social Circle.
