Our Thoughts... A senseless tragedy

Last week we learned that a body was found in Snapping Shoals Creek.

Because of the actions of the GBI and the Newton County Sheriff’s Department, the body was identified as that of Conyers landscaper Timothy Clements and four suspects were arrested in connection with his murder in less than a week. Clements, by all accounts, was a kind and hard-working family man.

Murders of any kind are always tragic. This one seems even more tragic than most as Clements’ two children will miss their father this Fathers Day for no apparent reason other than alleged robbery. If the four young suspects did indeed take a man’s life, they will probably spend the rest of their lives in prison for nothing but a little cash and a few credit cards — senseless.

While our prayers go out to the Clements family for their loss, we also want to praise the actions of the GBI and the NCSO for the quick apprehension of the four accused of his murder.

It also has been refreshing to have the cooperation of these departments in quickly releasing information to us at The News, so that we could keep the public informed in a timely manner.

Thank you for doing your job well; we know you all lose sleep and time with your families while working these cases.
