Mini retreat, big issue

The sheriff of Clayton County, Victor Hill, was recently indicted on 25 felony charges. A jury of his peers found him not guilty of each one.

If he had been found guilty of just one of the charges, he would have been removed from office.

Our own district attorney, Layla Zon, was chosen as special prosecutor in this case.

This was a good choice. Zon is, without a doubt, one of the toughest, most no-nonsense prosecutors in the state.

Unfortunately, what Zon found out is that when you have to prosecute a person who is mired down in the mud, who is being judged by peers who are mired in the same mud, you are not going to win.

Zon told us she had no regrets after the case was over, and we have no regrets that Layla Zon is our district attorney.
