Election coverage

Early voting has already begun and lines have been long, but for those who want one last look at the candidates, we've got a whole week of in-depth coverage planned.

In combination with the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce, we are hosting our candidate forum at 6 p.m., tonight at the Newton County College and Career Academy, next to Newton High School.

Not only will we and the chamber be asking questions, but the candidates will also be given the opportunity to ask each other one question and the audience will also be invited to submit questions.

Unlike previous forums, this forum will focus more on specific issues as opposed to general topics.

If you miss the forum, watch the video here.

In addition, we posted the nearly hour-long, sit-down video interviews we conducted with the candidates for county chairman and sheriff. The only candidate who declined to participate in the video interview was Democratic chairman candidate Marcus Jordan, who said he was not available for any of the dates we provided in September and October.

The remaining candidates, Republican chairman candidate Keith Ellis, Democratic incumbent Sheriff Ezell Brown and Republican sheriff challenger Capt. Philip Bradford, each sat down and answered more than a dozen questions. The two sheriff's candidates also answered three pointed questions provided by their opponent.

Finally, we'll run coverage of all that in Friday's paper for our special election preview edition, along with sample ballots and some other information.

It's important that every voter have an informed opinion, and we're doing our best to make sure you get all the information you need.
