We have on many occasions touted the value of volunteerism. Holly Cripps is an example of how one person who sees a need can make a difference.

It’s no secret that the city of Porterdale struggles to provide services for its citizens. Holly, whose husband Jason is a Porterdale police officer, was concerned that the bulletproof vests worn by the officers had become old and worn.

To this end she approached the Porterdale City Council with the idea of having a motorcycle ride to raise money for the purchase of new protective vests.

Her request was approved. She hoped to have 200 riders for her event, but only had 54. However, those 54 helped raise $2,070 for those vests.

It’s people like Holly Cripps who make a community. In these uncertain times we need even more people to step up and be counted as Holly did.

Holly Cripps, you are a true patriot.
