Clean and beautiful

Saturday is a day to get out and get active, and make Newton County a better place to live.

It's the day for the Great American Clean-up, and your help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a beautiful county, but it's awash in litter. It's up to us all to remedy that situation, and this is a perfect time to help. The Covington News will do its part. We'll be out there on Saturday, and we've also adopted a mile of highway to pick up trash on four times a year.

Meet up at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Kroger shopping center on U.S. Highway 278 to pick up supplies and get some breakfast. You can also help out in Oxford, where clean-up crews will meet up at 10 a.m. in the city hall parking lot. Bags, vests and refreshments will be available.

Porterdale needs your help, too. Meet at 9 a.m. at B.C. Crowell Park.

We'll be taking photos and will run them Sunday. Send us your litter snapshots, too, to lsandow@covnews.com. We want to show off our community pride, and how an hour's effort can make a big difference.
