Blocking driveways or education choices

Thanks to Mayor Kim Carter's tie breaking vote, the Covington City Council approved the special use permit for the proposed Peachtree Academy to be located in the McGuirts Bridge Road area of the city.

The main issue seems to be possible traffic increases for the area. One resident said before school and during afternoon dismissal that his driveway would be blocked.

We understand the frustration of waiting in traffic, and if the one resident is correct about his driveway, that is a serious problem.

We wonder if instead of a school, what if a business wanted to locate on that spot - a business that would employ as many full-time and part-time employees as the school will - would there be so much concern about possible traffic problems?

Roads can always be expanded and improved with the right amount of money; young minds can only be nurtured by learning experiences.
