If you've lived in Covington long, chances are you've run into Irene Smith somewhere. Civic-minded, impeccably dressed and with an unmistakable laugh, her vivacity is unmatched in the community.

This week the board of Main Street Covington honored member Irene Smith by dedicating a new art wall in her honor at the Covington-Newton Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center.

Smith has served as a dedicated member of that board since the program's inception as well as on the chamber's tourism division board.

Her many talents make her a valuable asset to the many boards on which she serves. Titles bestowed upon her include chef, television host, writer and gardener.

The artwork created by young people in Elise Hammond's advanced art class at Southern Heartland Art Gallery is a fitting tribute to such a colorful character.
