Acts of kindness
There are number of groups that have been busy elves this Christmas season whether it be through their volunteerism or through monies raised by them for a good community purpose.
Recently our law enforcement officers here in Covington and Newton County, along with the Department of Family and Children’s Services, were out in force taking local children in need shopping for Christmas.
We appreciate the efforts of our police as they annually participate in the Shop with a Cop program.
This special interaction with children develops a longtime respect and admiration for the work our police do.
The extra time our officers spend on this program brings a sense of joy to young people and it just might be the simple act of kindness that forever helps a child stay on the right side of the law.
We also salute the Covington Rotary Club, who will be delivering special Christmas stocking surprises Saturday to a large group of local children who might not have had as good of a visit from Santa this year as other children in the community.
The Rotarians have continued this worthwhile tradition for more than 50 years.
If you or your favorite organization are going the extra mile this year to help your neighbors, then send us the information and a picture of the event and we’ll print it in The News and post it on CovNews.com.
We will be glad and proud to do this as a thank you for your kindness.
